Study of a Lover
You sit still and straight,
Your face illuminated by the sticky fragmented light
Of the crystal chandelier.
Your look is drawn to the grey window behind me,
So much detail in the reflection on your spectacles.
The ash tray
Smokes.
Your shrewd fingers tightly knitted together,
A cigarette balancing between your nails.
And, as you exhale,
The library fills with cool vapours,
Painted so delicately.
